This optional cover can help with the unexpected costs caused by electric motor burnout, also known as fusion damage.

Most household appliances, such as fridges and air conditioners, use electric motors. Changes to the electric current powering the motor, like a power surge, can cause the wiring or motor to ‘burn out’. If this happens, the appliance breaks down, leaving you with the costs to repair or replace it.

Motor Burnout is an optional cover that you can add to your Allianz Home and Contents Insurance. We can cover your electric household appliances as part of your Building Insurance or Contents Insurance, or both.

Find out what is and isn’t covered under our Motor Burnout option.

Do you need to add Motor Burnout to your Home and Contents Insurance policy? Our team is here to help you with a new policy.

It can help you manage the unexpected costs that result from appliance breakdowns. When a motor burns out, it can be expensive to repair or replace, potentially leaving you with a hefty bill.

By adding optional Motor Burnout cover to your Home and Contents Insurance policy you can help avoid unexpected expenses.

Yes, providing you have Allianz Contents Insurance, and your fridge or freezer is under 10 years old.

You’d need Motor Burnout cover if, for example, your washing machine stops mid-cycle due to a burnt-out motor. Here are a few situations where Motor Burnout cover can be useful:

  • Electrical power surges: if the electricity supply to your appliances suddenly increases and harms their motors.
  • Power fluctuations: if the electricity supply often goes up and down where you live.
  • Expensive appliances: if your appliances are expensive to replace, Motor Burnout cover can be a good idea. It helps you avoid paying for unexpected repairs or replacements that could strain your budget.

Remember to read the relevant PDS to understand when and how Motor Burnout cover applies.

You can add Motor Burnout cover to your Home and Contents Insurance, Building Insurance or Contents Insurance, for an extra cost. This will depend on the cost of your insurance, called your premium, and the excess you choose.1
It’s the same as motor burnout. Motor fusion and motor burnout happen when an electrical motor burns out due to an electrical current issue. This could be a power surge or short circuit. The motor stops working, causing the appliance to break down.
