Insurance for home businesses

Cover your home-based business with insurance that suits your needs

Last updated on December 12, 2024

Running a home-based business can be both rewarding and cost-effective but it also comes with certain risks.

Allianz Business Insurance is a flexible policy that allows you to tailor cover to your business’ needs. This can include public and products liability and general property covers depending on your business activities. We have 12 cover options to choose from1.

Let us know if you start using any part of your home for business, except for a home office. Our Home and Contents Insurance policies provide cover for some business activities operating from home but there are limits.

For example, you're covered under Contents for specific equipment used for business, trade, or professional purposes. This includes computers, hardware and software.

However, there’s a $1,500 limit per item and up to $10,000 in total. Money and cheques belonging to your business also aren’t covered.

Allianz Business Insurance automatically includes Public Liability Insurance when you get a quote online. You can then mix and match to create a policy suited to your home-based business. Additional cover options include but are not limited to:

Cover your shop or office building, contents and stock for accidental damage from unexpected insured events, such as a fire, storm, or vandalism. If you have a Home based business, Commercial Property does not cover domestic residential buildings or property.
Helps to cover your lost income, profits, or turnover as a result of interruption to your business caused by insured unforeseen defined events, such as a fire.

Even if clients don’t regularly visit your home, you should still consider Public Liability Insurance. Allianz Public Liability Insurance includes both public and products liability cover. This covers your business if a member of the public is injured while using your products or services.
You’re not legally required to have public liability insurance if you’re a sole trader. However, it can be worthwhile. It can help cover you if someone is injured or their property is damaged in connection with your business, including while using your products or services.
