Allianz today announced it has bolstered teams across claims lodgment and management, assessing and customer communication to further support customers impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
As of 1:00pm Monday 10 March, Allianz has received over 1330 claims which includes 1272 home claims, 52 motor claims and 6 commercial claims. This number is expected to rise in the coming days as power and telecommunications channels are reinstated across the impacted regions.
Scott Cooper, National Manager Disaster and Recovery, Allianz commented: “Allianz is very well prepared for this event and has been assisting customers across the weekend.
“The claims team have currently processed over 1330 claims. Many of our customers are yet to assess the damage or file claims due to challenges around property access, power outages and transport. We’re expecting to see many more claims over the coming days and have dedicated teams ready to support our customers through this difficult time.”
“Allianz customers can lodge a new claim online or on the phone 24/7 and we’ve set up a dedicated phone line to assist customers over 75 years old. More wind, heavy rain and flooding is expected in some regions today, but as soon as it’s safe to do so, the Allianz Disaster and Recovery team will be on the ground to assist customers face to face.”
“With more flooding expected today, we ask all members of the community in the impacted regions to put safety-first and listen to directions from local authorities.”
There are a number of actions that Allianz customers are being encouraged to take if they have been affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
- For customers needing to make a claim, the Allianz team is available 24/7 for new claims lodgment on 13 10 13, and customers can also claim online at allianz.com.au/claims.
- You can lodge your claim without being at home or having a copy of your policy, as we already have your details on file.
- Prioritize safety: Confirm there are no hazards before entering your property. Return only after emergency services have declared it safe. If your property has been affected by water, ensure a licensed electrician inspects it before turning on electricity.
- You can start the cleanup process without waiting for an insurance assessor to arrive.
- Create an inventory and capture photos of damaged items, including their model numbers, to assist us in facilitating their replacement.
- Ensure your home is well-ventilated. Remove wet items such as carpets and curtains, but remember to take photos beforehand.
- Allianz also offers free, confidential counselling support for support to customers, distribution partners and their immediate families who have been affected by a natural catastrophic event. Calls are handled by Assure Programs and bookings can be made 24/7 via 1800 955 599. For more information, visit Allianz’s counselling support page.
With severe weather continuing today, members of the communities should put safety-first and listen to the advice from local authorities. Allianz also has a check-list of actions to take following a cyclone via our cyclone support page.
- Listen to the local radio for official warnings and advice
- Don’t go outside until officially advised that it’s safe
- If you need to go outside, beware of fallen powerlines, damaged buildings and tress and flooded water courses
- Don’t walk or drive through flowing water or enter water of an unknown depth
- Check for gas leaks and don’t use electrical appliances if wet
- If you had to evacuate, don’t go home until advised it is safe to do so
- Always assume downed powerlines are live and lethal
- Check on neighbours and help them if necessary and safe to do so
We urge all of the impacted communities to stay informed via queensland.gov.au/emergency and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities.
