Allianz has initiated its emergency response plan to support customers impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting the cyclone may impact the coast from Noosa to Yamba tomorrow, with storms, destructive wind gusts and flooding expected to severely damage properties and cars within the region.
The Allianz Event Leadership Team has a comprehensive response plan to ensure prompt and effective support to the affected communities where our customers live and work. This includes:
- Triggering the surge response plan: Allianz has added additional resourcing to assist customers who need to make a claim either via the phone (13 10 13), or online at allianz.com.au. This includes refresher training for Allianz’s ‘blue army’ who have been re-directed from other areas of the business to assist with claims. The Allianz claims team is available 24/7 for new claims lodgments.
- Dedicated phone line for customers over 75 years old: Once the cyclone has crossed, Allianz customers over 75 years old will receive a text message with a dedicated phone line where they can make a claim, book a loss adjustor and get help securing temporary accommodation, if required.
- Engaging local builders: Allianz is in conversation with local builders and tradespeople to secure their services to assist with rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the cyclone.
- Engagement with partners: Allianz is in frequent communication with partners to prepare them and their customers for the potential impact of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. The goal is to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to support those affected.
- Customer Communications: Customers are being updated on how to stay prepared as this weather event unfolds through local TV ads, paid social media and via text message. Customers can also visit Allianz’s cyclone support page for more information.
- Preparing for deployment of our Disaster and Recovery Team: Once it is safe to do so, Allianz will mobilise a team and be on the ground with customers and partners to ensure maximum support and help with claims.
- Free counselling support: Allianz also offers free, confidential counselling support to customers, distribution partners and their immediate families who have been affected by a natural catastrophic event. Calls are handled by Assure Programs and bookings can be made 24/7 via 1800 955 599. For more information, visit Allianz’s counselling support page.
Scott Cooper, National Manager Disaster and Recovery, Allianz commented, “Our first priority is the safety and wellbeing of our customers and the broader communities in the impacted regions, and our thoughts are with them as they navigate the coming days and weeks.
“The damage from Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to be severe, and Allianz is ready to support customers in the aftermath. We’ve bolstered our resource capability across claims lodgment and management, assessing and customer communication.
“Our customers can lodge a new claim online or on the phone 24/7. We’ve also set up a dedicated phone line to assist customers over 75 years old. As soon as it’s safe to do so, our Disaster and Recovery team will be on the ground, ready to assist customers face to face.”
With Tropical Cyclone Alfred predicted to hit in the next 24 hours, there are a number of actions that members of the community can take to ensure their safety and minimise damage to their properties and cars. Allianz has a full checklist of actions via our cyclone support page.
- Activate your household emergency plan and finalise your emergency kit, that includes a power bank for your mobile phone.
- Stay tuned to your local radio station for more information.
- Park vehicles under solid shelter and use protective covers. Move cars to higher ground to avoid water damage, or place sandbags around the vehicle to prevent water from entering.
- Shelter and secure pets and animals
- Secure outdoor furniture, garden items, caravans and boats. Loose items may be locked inside
- Close shutters and board up or block all windows and secure external doors
- Fill bathtubs and buckets with water
We urge everyone in the projected path of Tropical Cyclone Alfred to stay informed via qld.gov.au/emergency and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities.
