Allianz is closely monitoring the development of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which is predicted to impact the east coast stretching from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland through to Brisbane and northern New South Wales on Thursday evening/Friday morning.
Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our customers, employees, and the communities potentially affected by this natural event, and as such we have now activated our pre-event plan.
With Tropical Cyclone Alfred expected to make landfall in the coming days, there are several actions people in the affected regions can take to prepare. For a full checklist, head to Allianz’s cyclone support page.
- Make sure gutters and downpipes on your home and other structures are clear so that heavy rain can flow freely off your roof
- Check tiles, corrugated sheets or other coverings on your roof are secure and can withstand high winds
- Make sure tree branches do not overhang your house or where you park your car
- Secure any items around your house that could become dangerous if blown about in high winds
- Identify a room in your house where you can shelter if you can’t evacuate
- Check your property for any loose material and tie down (or fill with water) any large or relatively light items such as boats and rubbish bins
- Check your emergency kit and fill any water containers you may have and prepare for power outages
- Fill your vehicles’ fuel tanks and jerry cans with fuel
- To assist with potential future claims, take photos of your assets
Our teams have started updating our partners and customers around how to stay prepared as this weather event unfolds through local TV ads, paid social media and SMS. Customers can also visit Allianz’s cyclone support page for more information.
Scott Cooper, National Manager Disaster and Recovery, Allianz commented, “With Tropical Cyclone Alfred expected to hit the east coast in the coming days, there are many things that customers in the affected regions can do now to prepare. This includes securing shutters, windows, doors and outdoor items. To prepare for power outages, put together an emergency pack that includes a power bank so that you have access to your phone at all times.
