Allianz Australia boosts commitment to Australian Para-sport with Commonwealth Games sponsorship

14 June 2018

Allianz Australia has reconfirmed its commitment to Australian Para-sport through a new partnership with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) and the Australian Commonwealth Games Team, as well as re-signing with Australian Paralympic Committee (APC).

As part of the initiative, Allianz will extend its support for the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) to 2021, and will be aligned to the GC2018 Triathlon and the first ever Commonwealth Games Para-triathlon.

Allianz Managing Director, Richard Feledy said it was an honour to be supporting our athletes when they compete on home soil from 4 – 15 April 2018.

“We are proud to invest in partnerships which reflect inspiration and innovation, which are both an important part of who we are. What could be more inspiring than watching our athletes push themselves to the limit?”

“Two of these incredible athletes are Allianz Ambassadors, Madison de Rozario and Nic Beveridge. Madison is a three-time Paralympian and a World Champion in wheelchair racing, while Nic is an accomplished Para-triathlete, having made his Paralympic debut in Rio in 2016. Both are medal contenders for the Commonwealth Games, and we look forward to cheering them on come April.”

Allianz will give a behind-the-scenes look at Australia’s Para-athletes preparing to compete at the Commonwealth Games, told through the eyes of Madison and Nic, on the Allianz Facebook page.

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC), Chairman, Peter Beattie AC said GC2018 was proud to partner with Allianz Australia to champion diversity and inclusion in Australia.

GC 2018 will have the largest integrated para-sport program in Commonwealth Games history with 38 medal events across seven para-sports,” Mr Beattie said.

“We’re focused on making these Games the most accessible in Commonwealth Games history and hope to inspire a new generation of athletes across Australia and the Commonwealth.

“Having an integrated sport program is a feature of the Commonwealth Games, and I’m looking forward to seeing Para-athletes from across the Commonwealth compete for Gold as part of the world class sport on offer during GC2018.”

Richard said Allianz has a long history of supporting diversity and inclusion.

“Through the APC, and their link with the Australian Commonwealth Games team, Allianz’s support will contribute to training programs and facilities, access to medical equipment, and travel needs for the thousands of athletes and supporters travelling to the Gold Coast for the event,” Richard said.

“Allianz was recognised just last week for our workplace programs by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for the ninth year running, and has long been recognised for our support of refugee employment and education through our partnership with Settlement Services International.”

“We hope to continue to grow our understanding, and promote representation, of a richly diverse Australia, and translate that to our customers’ experience.”

From 4-15 April, history will be made on the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will welcome more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 Commonwealth nations and territories to the Gold Coast and event cities Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, to share in the celebration of sport, entertainment and culture.

The largest sporting event to be staged in Australia this decade, GC2018 will feature the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising 18 sports and seven para-sports.
The Australian Paralympic Committee is the National Paralympic Committee in Australia for the Paralympic Games movement, helping Australians with disabilities participate in sport and compete at the Paralympic Games through partnerships with governments, business, sporting bodies and the community.

The committee is responsible for preparing the Australian Paralympic Summer and Winter Teams for the Paralympic Games, which they have done successfully since 1990. They also work with National Federation partners to help identify potential Paralympians and assist athletes to prepare for competition by providing funding for coaching, equipment and travel in the lead up to the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.
